Heartbleed: We’re Not Affected. Here’s What You Can Do To Protect Yourself

By now, you’ve probably heard about Heartbleed. It’s a major security bug believed to affect about17% of all (supposedly) secure servers on the Internet.
There’s a good chance you’re wondering whether AWeber.com and other websites you use have been affected.
So let’s talk about it.

AWeber: Not Affected

When we found out about Heartbleed, we quickly verified whether we were affected.
All of our servers were secure and not affected by the Heartbleed bug.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about what you can do to protect yourself now and minimize the risk of future events like Heartbleed affecting you.

Why It’s Still a Good Idea to Change Your Password

First of all, even though AWeber was not affected, we recommend that you change your account password.
Why do we recommend changing your password, even if AWeber wasn’t affected?
Changing your password from time to time is a good security practice, and an event like Heartbleed is a reminder to do this.
Plus, you might also have been using the password for your AWeber account as your password for some other website that was affected by Heartbleed.
So go do that now. Here’s the link.

How to Find Out if Heartbleed Affects You

Next, you should find out what other sites you use that were affected by Heartbleed.
There are a few free resources available to help you with this:

Get a Password Management Tool

Are you using the same password for multiple websites?
If so, it’s time to stop doing that and protect your digital self better.
There are a number of high-quality password management tools that will help you keep track of your various passwords.
In some cases, you can even automatically fill in the login and password you need for a site with a simple keyboard shortcut. So there’s really no reason to re-use a password on multiple websites.
Here are a few password management tools:
We like and use 1Password extensively at AWeber, but whatever your choice is, pick one and get in the habit of using it and setting up unique passwords for your online accounts.

COMING SOON:THE NEW FACEBOOK

Facebook will begin rolling out a redesign for its news feed on Thursday, almost exactly one year after the company initially announced a major overhaul at its Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters.
The new look includes font changes and more prominent photos that span the entire news feed, but the overall look is more subtle than the changes Facebookpromised a year ago when it first announced the redesign.
Those proposed changes never took place, except on a small number of users' profiles, and ultimately were abandoned. Thursday's update is an alternative that Facebook's news feed product manager Greg Marra told Re/code takes user feedback from the past year into account.

There are other slight changes to the redesign, like larger buttons added to the "people you may know" section along the right rail and slight design tweaks to icons on the "update status" and the "add photos/videos" tabs across the top. The new look will not impact the way stories or ads are surfaced, however. Images for both ads and organic stories will be the same size, as they are on mobile.
"We want to be clear that this update does not affect ad specs, ads performance or optimization," a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable. "These changes are visual updates and do not affect how content is surfaced to people, nor do they change how stories are ranked in News Feed."
The new design will rollout to users in the "coming weeks."

PAID ADVERTISING VS. FREE ADVERTISING

4/13/2014 07:19:00 AM 0 Comments

Hello dear friends!

Today's tip is about the debate paid advertising vs.

free advertising ...

People who sell ad space will usually tell you that paid

advertising gets better results. Most of them won't

tell

you that there are risks involved and the biggest risk

is to get nothing in exchange of your money (for

various reasons such as: your ad was not good, you

didn't target the right market, etc.)

Freebie hunters will tell you that free advertising

rocks

and that's the way to go. Most of them won't tell you

that some free resources are a waste of time though

or won't tell you that free advertising requires TIME

(which is money for most of the people).

The truth is that none of these forms of advertising is

better than the other one.

It's true that FOR SOME PEOPLE one is better than

the

other. But ... do you have the same skills like those

people? Do you have the same experience like those

people? Do you have the same knowledge like those

people? You and those people are one? No way.

That's why the results will be different.

Test what is best FOR YOU, don't follow a certain

guru's piece of advice. She or he will tell you what is

best for her or him. But you're different ...

All the best to you and yours,

Adrian Jock
